Hailey is a joy to spend time with, but she has definitely been testing us lately. The new thing is not wanting to eat at night. Friday night she had such a fit during dinner that she ended up going straight to bed with no more TV, no more outside, and no book. After standing our ground on our threats, we questioned if we were being too hard on her, she is only 2!!!! But we need to set the ground work for discipline, as we don't want her to think we will give in all the time. From now on, we just won't offer those threats so drastically. I guess "You eat what you get, and if you don't eat it, you don't get anything else" is tough enought for a 2 year old. Tonight we lightened up slightly, and eventually she did eat what we asked of her. Is it too much to ask for a toddler to eat more than just applesauce?? The reverse psychology has been working to an extent:"I don't think you can eat that. You are too little"- but I think she is begining to catch on to that trick quick!! Any suggestions out there? We want to stand firm but don't want to become too strict. She is definitely starting to play us against each other and showing signs of defiance. OY!

I deal with this everyday with Owie. Here's is what we do. Put the food in front of him. When he's hungry it is available. No dessert until he eats dinner. If he eats a little, the rest is there when he is hungry again. He loves "Chocky Milk" so we will with hold that if he does not eat what we feel is a good portion. Our Pediatrician always said that he will eat when he is hungry. Also, limit juices or milk right before dinner. I once heard that serving food to a child on a red plate helps. Tried it once and he ate but probably because it was something that he really liked. Last, we make him leave the table if he is winey or throwing a fit. Hope that helps! Good luck, 3 has not been better, maybe 4 will be. Come on August 2. Love you all!!!
